It‘s about a feeling he had when he saw blues legend John Lee Hooker at the Commodore in Vancouver when he was only 17. And when you hear the song Power of the Blues, you know those emotions are still alive and well. ... read more eVent Magazine |

Reeding,
Bittersweet - CD Sherman doucette's third CD rocks with great harp, Doucette's gravely voice which some compare with Greg Allman and Bobby Bland's and Doucette's original lyrics throughout. This rock CD is somewhat of a departure from Doucette's previous two albums. "Bittersweet sounds a lot more mature I think and a little more settled than our previous efforts," commented Doucette. "The first album was more rock and roll with seven originals and three covers; second album was mostly covers with two or three originals, recorded live at the Yale Hotel. Now were trying to get a hit, trying to go more mainstream so we've written the songs on this album to be radio friendly with grooves and feels that a lot of people can relate to." This has taken special effort for Doucette because he notes that he tends to write songs on the heavy side. "These are all real stories. I wrote the opening cut, Pull That Love, for Generation X because a lot of their music is so negative, so I wanted to put a positive image out there." Doucette sites Marvin Gaye and the Neville Brothers as inspirations to him. " They write songs about the issues that really count like songs about cities, lack of money, lack of education, not so much about boy meets girl." However, Doucette has included three " love " songs in Bittersweet. " I've really tried to touch on putting some love themes in this album. When we did our first album , they said there wasn't enough in it about a boy and girl, about love." One of these songs, Baby That's The Way Love Goes, has an especially exciting harmonica solo by Doucette. Boogieman's Brew, a tribute to John Lee Hooker, another one of Doucette's inspirations, also has an incredible harmonica solo. The title cut on the album, which is really strong and hard hitting, was written by Doucette right after his mother died. "Three weeks after my mother died, I got married. So I went to the wedding with this song in my head. It was Bittersweet and the lyrics tell the story," Doucette noted. Bittersweet is sold in major stores across Canada and some stores in the states.
